I miss Mackie!

HEY guys- I guess its about that time I should update you all on my life- I dont know where last left off- So Ill just tell you about this past year-

I got hired on with BC ambulance in November- which is awesome becuse I'm finally working as a paramedic- the only thing is the pay... If you work in a small station which I had to for the first 6 months) you work what is called a Kilo car and you get TWO dollars an hour to be on standby - and then your regulr pay when you get a call- the problem is if you work in a small station that ets 200 calls a year - you can bet you'll be making 2$ the entire time- which barely covers food and transportation so it was a lame 6 months to say the least- in the meantime I did some work for a company called Industrial Paramedics Services- they supply oil and gas companies with on-site paramedics- So I did 2 weeks in Fort Nelson in March and I just did 2 weeks in Tumbler Ridge- I got zero calls each time- I lived on camp each time with the workers- I was they only girl on site- which gets old really fast- And when there are no calls you basicly wake up at 6- do safety meeting and then watch TV or read for the entire day- it's crazy boring- I felt a bit nutty- but the pay made up for all the lack of pay from BC ambulance- Now I got a new station - Chemainus woop woop- so there ae 3 different levels of pay which makes it so much better- Oh okay and back up for a second- I was so frustrated with BC ambulance that I started looking at otehr EMS services- My dad works in fort mcmurray and so I was thining about going there- lots of incentives thats for sure- including them paying for my next training which is awesome- SO in order to be a paramedic in alberta I'd have to get re-licensed there because every province is under different medical direction- I had to teach myself all of their protocols, medications and how to read an ECG- because our paramedics at my level in BC dont carry those- anyways- I had a written exam and 2 scenarios to act out- I aced my scenairos and even interpreted the ECG right which was a big thing because it was so hard to understandon my own- and I passed the written with a pretty good mark- the other catch for fort mcmurray is that all their medics had to have firefighter training- which is dumb- so you have to pass the intense physical ( a female hasn't pased for three years) so hired a trainer and traind super hard- You have to complete job related tasks in certian amounts of time- I failed by one minute- it was super upseting- But now I'm realizing I'm supposed to be in BC- I can still go to Calgary if I wanted to but I dont think thats where I'm supposed to be- wow that was long- okay so long story short I'm staying in BC to work for 2$ an hour haha at least on holidays I make 3.50 yesss cha ching

Okay so now I'm looking at doing international relief work- I'm hoping to take a disaster management course through the justice institute soon and we'll see where that takes me - For now , if you guys are ever around chemainus call me ! 927-2600- depending on what car I work on I'm allowed to be in a 5km radius of the station so we can go for coffee or something- maybe I'll take you fo a ride in the waaambulance

I will be at youth camp this year counseling- anyone else??

well I miss you guys-

Brys
