Do you Love me? (part 2..stupid mistake)
(how ironic that i accidently publish before i'm done..???) anywhoo.....
"a second chance with....
no memories of the first. You catching the point to the stpry yet? So anyways Ortberg goes on to explain the story of Peter's life and all the screw ups he's had. He didnt have the faith that they could catch any more fish, or faith that he could walk on water (another whole book of Ortbergs*) and sank, and still also denied himself as a follower of Jesus 3 times! In every situation, Peter was given a mulligan, a second chance. Ortberg goes on to tell the story of when Jesus and Peter stood together, alone for the first time since Peter had denied him. John tells the story so vividly that he recalls it a charcoal fire. Peter hinmself sat in front of a charcoal fire where he denied his discipleship of Jesus 3 times. Peter awaits for Jesus' words like a prisoner waiting to hear the verdict from court. Alone with Jesus, Peter was would only assume that Jesus would ask him things like "Peter, are you sorry for what you've done, do you promise not to fail me again? will you try harder?" But this was not so the case. Jesus simply asks "Peter...Do you Love me?" Why would he ask such a question? Well...some scholers put it like this, 'First things first...do you Love me?'. This is the question of a hopeful lover, like when a man asks his wife of 25 years if she loves him. Such a tender question, it puts ones heart on the line. Peter answers "yes Lord, you know I Love you" But yet again Jesus asks specifically and addresses him by his formal name "Simon, son of John, do you Love me?" Three times Jesus asks Petere this question, to make him hurt, sometimes Love has to hurt and this is why Jesus asked Peter 3 times. Not once, but 3 times Peter stood by the charcoal fire and denied Jesus. Jesus asks us the same question everytime we fail God in front of the fire, but why? Its not an easy question or for that matter, even a comfortable question, but he asks us anyways. And he challanges us to get back in the game, finish the calling he has set before us. He's always calling our bad shot's 'mulligans'.
And we as Christians know that we Love God, but do we really Love, even when we are so full of ourselves??? I wrote this not only becuase it inspiered me and made me question myself, but becuase this applies to all of us today. I just want you guys to think about that every time your "in it" as is mentioned in a movie I watch rather often (Garden State, amazing movie).
I love you all (do i really though? LOL) and still pray for you guys,
Keep it up my brothers and sisters!

Thank you Jason. It is a great reminder to go back to the basic fundamentals. Society has used the word love so flippantly that it has lost its true meaning. I definitely need to work on truly loving him and not just playing a part. - Craymer
