JimBad's Mid-Life

I think I may (finally) be experiencing what others my age have talked about for years: mid-life crisis. It happened like this - Sarah and I just started looking for a used car to replace our aging minivan, which was great when the kids were young because they could puke and stuff and it was like being in your house. But now that they are bigger than me it is time to lose the minivan.

So yesterday the very first ad we check out from the Buy&Sell takes us to this driveway where the little car sat that I have talked about for years with word like, "I gotta get one of those." Cherry red Honda CRX. I can't believe that this is the car that was in the ad for $3000, but it is. Great shape, no rust, motor hums like a fine-tuned instrument. Trouble is, first look inside tells me something I didn't know about the CRX: it only has two seats.

Very funny, going from a 7-passenger minivan to a two-seater sports edition. It was the kind of thing Sarah and I joked about when we got tired of hauling Ben and Danny and all their friends around the countryside. My heart sank, since it was clearly impractical, but to my great surprise my heart suddenly rose again and claimed the little critter. Here it is sitting on my driveway, not to speak of my conscience:

So now the question: Do we toss cold water on our faces and get back to reality, or do we keep it? What do you think? Is God ticked, or is he smiling at us and saying, "For crying out loud, just enjoy the little thing"? Your comments will be read and pondered.

Hey Kristi, that's the whole point: Ben and Danny DON'T go - we do! They are laughing at me and are trying hard not to be very enthusiastic about this whole thing. But they will get their chance, I guess. And I told them that there is an advantage when one of them is driving to some special occasion, and darn - he's only got room for that one girl!

I say you keep it jimbad.... My dad had a bit of a midlife crisis like that... he bought a 4Runner from Japan, without telling my mom.... and it's a right hand drive.... but at least my dad's midlife crisis has room for us, his children in the back seat.... how do Ben and Danny feel about this exclusion Jim?

my thoughts are for the bethel kaleos. i remember we didnt really fit in the minivan with you two, ben, danny, and 4 kaleos. are you gonna just take a kaleo van to church? and you no longer have the luxury of a youth pastor who works in crofton either who could drive. other than that i think it's great. ben was even given 500 dollars for a car he got for free, he can survive. and danny can just use his good looks and charm to bum rides off kaleo students and qwanoes staff.

although, i have always been a huge fan of ty's blunt wisdom. this world needs more people like him. i would listen to that guy when he says something.

Yey!

Jim, has this ever happened to you. Someone gives you a gift but specificaly tells you that it is just for you and that your not to share it with anyone. You know why the gift giver says this, because they know that every other gift you have ever gotten form everyone else you always share and give it/use it on other people, and wile being self-less is such a great thing, the gift giver wants to make sure that you reap the benifits from this 1 particular gift. He wants you to be blessed just like you;ve belssed others! They may even go so far as to embroider your name in the gift to make sure you keep it! I don't know, it's just a thought but I like to think about God being a gift giver, and maybe in this circumstance instead of an embriodered name to ensure ownership, it's 2 seats. Hahah it's a long stretch I know but it's just what came to mind!

Anyone else notice how this whole car question has managed to collect more comments than either of the engagement posts?

And I agree with Ty. If you feel bad that it's not practical, don't bother keeping it.

Except I want you to teach me to drive....

....Keep it.

wha! That's awesome, and I agree, your whole life is one of servanthood that it's hard to accept it. I mean, you won't be able to pick up those 6 stray kids that got on the wrong ferry and ended up in Victoria instead of Nainimo (How is that spelt?) with it, but that's what camp vans are for right?
Another thing is, the amount of people who are happy that you get something for you, by the looks of this post, we're all extatic.
(but if you do decide to not keep it, and haven't gotten rid of it yet, Tiny Tim has finally been put out of his misery and I'm looking for a vehicle:)
Keep it Jim
